Pretty Wednesday Tip

so the other day I was buying new perfume. I said to the lady "how long can you actually keep perfume until it goes bad?" This is a question I have asked myself many-a-times...she replied "oh it can last about 3 years...depending on where you place it...its best to NOT keep your perfumes in the bathroom. Its better to store them in your room away from heat or steam. The reason for this is b/c for some reason heat and steam cause your perfume to loose its color and eventually its strong scent" HUH!??!?! I KEEP MINE IN BY BATHROOM...so today I moved them into my room. I do what the perfume lady tells me to do.

Coca Cola Monday Tip

I would like to share a slightly different 'cleaning' use for that well known beloved drink we know as Coca Cola.
While watching "How Clean Is Your House" on TV recently (British show), the ladies cleaned a long-forgotten burnt saucepan simply by boiling some Coca Cola in it. A few weeks later, I sort of had a "forgot I was cooking chicken on the stove"moment and it was burnt to a crisp... quite encrusted in places actually. I recalled this show and of course I had some Coke on hand I decided to try it. True to their word, it worked like magic!
Magnifico!

Sunday Bakin' Tippy...

One of the best tips i ever did here goes a little somethin' like this:

"Rinse measuring cup in hot water before using syrup, oil, etc. Will pour out clean and not stick to cup."

And let me tell you it works! I hate not getting every last bit out of my cups!
and here's a recipe that you can use this tip with...and you will be glad you did because this cake is so delish, my mouth is watering just thinkin' about it!!! Happy sunday to y'all!

Gooey La Mantequilla Cake
(fyi anyone know what la mantequilla means?! first one gets 100 kudo points!)

Time: 1 1/2 hours, plus 2 1/2 to 3 hours’ rising
FOR THE CAKE:
3 tablespoons milk at room temperature
1 3/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
6 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
FOR THE TOPPING:
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon light corn syrup
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg
1 cup plus 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Confectioners’ sugar, for sprinkling.
1. In a small bowl, mix milk with 2 tablespoons warm water. Add yeast and whisk gently until it dissolves. Mixture should foam slightly.
2. Using an electric mixer with paddle attachment, cream butter, sugar and salt. Scrape down sides of bowl and beat in the egg. Alternately add flour and the milk mixture, scraping down sides of bowl between each addition. Beat dough on medium speed until it forms a smooth mass and pulls away from sides of bowl, 7 to 10 minutes.
3. Press dough into an ungreased 9-by 13-inch baking dish at least 2 inches deep. Cover dish with plastic wrap or clean tea towel, put in a warm place, and allow to rise until doubled, 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
4. Heat oven to 350 degrees. To prepare topping, in a small bowl, mix corn syrup with 2 tablespoons water and the vanilla. Using an electric mixer with paddle attachment, cream butter, sugar and salt until light and fluffy, 5 to 7 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl and beat in the egg. Alternately add flour and corn syrup mixture, scraping down sides of bowl between each addition.
5. Spoon topping in large dollops over risen cake and use a spatula to gently spread it in an even layer. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes; cake will rise and fall in waves and have a golden brown top, but will still be liquid in center when done. Allow to cool in pan before sprinkling with confectioners’ sugar for serving.
Yield: 16 to 20 servings.

10 Tips on how to get a good Picture everytime! (well usually!)

Hey there y'all! Okie Dokie for the Saturday Tip of the Day I decided to go with a little "how to take a good picture" list...my mama use to always tell me to stand up straight...well along with that here are 10 good tips to taking a good picture anywhwere anytime. There's nothin' worse that being the only bad apple in the midst of a good batch...you know what i mean!!!

1. Focus your eyes just slightly above the camera lens, move your face forward a bit, and tip down your chin.

2. Put your tongue behind your teeth and smile, which will relax your face.

3. Keep your arms by your side—but not glued there. To look natural, they should be a little away from your body.

4. Test-drive clothing against a white wall, with an indirect, natural light source (under a tree, indoors near a window)—it will show whether blue really is your best color.

5. As a rule, avoid patterns.

6. Photos exaggerate everything, so go easy on the makeup. For women under 30, a little mascara and lip gloss; over 30, add a touch of concealer.

7. Practice the classic model pose: Turn your body three quarters of the way toward the camera, with one foot in front of the other and one shoulder closer to the photographer. When you face forward, your body tends to look wider.

8. For standing photos, belly in, buttocks tight, shoulders back, spine straight.

9. Study photogenic people as well as photos in which you think you looked best. Look at your best angle. You’ll probably see that you were laughing or having a good time. Capturing someone when they’re relaxed or most animated usually makes for the best results.

10. To feel at ease, try closing your eyes, then opening them slowly just before the photo is taken. (yeah this one sounds weird, but some people start gettin' the twitchy eye and so if you do this that disappears...nobody likes the twitchy eye!)

First Ever Friday Post...

Oh the joy of it all. I have wanted to start this Tip/Advice blog for quite some time. But didn't know how to go about doing it. Well, I am up and ready for action baby! First post, mark it down on your calendar ladies and gents because THIS blog will be very useful to you! Very useful indeed. I've got a lot of tips in this noggin' of mine and Im ready to share it with y'all! Take it or leave it, it's comin' at ya. One piece of advice at a time. So for The Sexy Friday Tip:

1. A kiss means a lot. It is the action that marks the beginning of a romantic relationship. A kiss is what seals the vows exchanged on a wedding day. A kiss can say hello, goodbye, give comfort, or be romantic, just to name a few. In other words, kissing is always appropriate with that special person in your life. Coming from a woman’s perspective, kissing is essential to feel connected to our mate. So therefore, I challenge you...to kiss your loved one for 10 seconds...without that expectation that it'll lead to other things. Just KISS them. Then maybe you'll WANT it to go further.

Happy day to you!
